UEFA CUP QUARTER-FINAL FIRST-LEG LATEST
Hamburg 3-1 Manchester City 1945 BST
PSG 0-0 Dynamo Kiev 1945 BST
Werder Bremen 3-0 Udinese 1945 BST

RESULT Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Marseille

2118: GOAL Hamburg 3-1 Manchester City
2116: City have the ball in a decent position on the right but Micah Richards sums up their night by passing straight to a Hamburg player. The visitors are short of ideas going forward and although Benjani is putting himself about more than Danny Sturridge did, he is not having much joy.
2114: By the way, the winners of this tie face either Werder Bremen or Udinese in the last four. And the German side are well on top in that encounter too thanks to Ribas Diego's double and a goal from Miguel Hugo Almeida.
2111: Micah Richards and the rest of the Manchester City defence will be relieved - Ivica Olic is coming off, to be replaced by Jose Paolo Guerrro. Olic has been superb for Hamburg tonight.
2109: GOAL Werder Bremen 3-0 Udinese (Miguel Hugo Almeida 69)
2107: GOAL Werder Bremen 2-0 Udinese (Ribas Diego 67)
2107: This will be City's fifth successive away defeat in all competitions unless Mark Hughes has got something up his sleeve in the final 20 minutes. It does not look good for him right now and it could easily have been worse - Javier Garrido's wild clearance only just goes over Shay Given's crossbar.
2106: A ferocious 30-yard effort by Marcell Jansen flies just wide of Shay Given's post. Hamburg are not finished yet.
Kevin Gallacher on BBC 5 Live: "City cannot afford to collapse now - they are still in this tie because they know they can score goals at Eastlands in the second leg."
2104: GOAL Hamburg 2-1 Manchester City Micah Richards blocks Joris Mathisen's acrobatic effort with his hands and referee Olegario Benquerenca has no choice but to award a penalty. Piotr Trochowski hammers home his spot-kick despite Shay Given's best efforts.
2103: PENALTY TO HAMBURG
2102: Hamburg's best chance of the second half. Shaun Wright-Phillips has to hack the ball off the line from a corner.
2101: A decent effort by Shaun Wright-Phillips who lets fly from around 30 yards but sees the ball gathered comfortably by Hamburg goalkeeper Frank Rost. The German side are still dominating possession though.
2100: Another card for a City player. Shay Given is booked for apparent time-wasting.
2058: Craig Bellamy goes into Olegario Benquerenca's notebook for holding back David Jarolim. It is a slight understatement to say the Welshman does not entirely agree with the decision.
2055: Great stuff by City - Shaun Wright-Phillips slides a useful ball into the path of Stephen Ireland but it is a fraction too long and Frank Rost is able to come out and collect.
2052: Ivica Olic is certainly having a game to remember - he has just made a couple more rampaging runs down the left and it takes the combined efforts of Richard Dunne and Micah Richards to stop him. City need to try to keep hold of the ball - they are not doing that enough at the moment. Olic will be at Bayern Munich next season by the way, he has already signed a pre-contractact agreement with Jurgen Klinsmann's side.
2048: Some fancy footwork by Robinho in the corner. Colin Benjamin patiently watches while the Brazilian does a series of step-overs, then almost effortlessly dispossesses him. Apart from in the first minute, Robinho has not exactly shone tonight.
2046: Normal service is quickly resumed - Piotr Trochowski sends a shot fizzing over the bar after 55 seconds of the second period. A bit dull this!
2045: Javier Garrido is on for Wayne Bridge at left-back for the visitors - Bridge did not look fully fit to be honest. Manchester City get us back under way...hold on to your hats.
From TwinCitiesTurvey on 606: "Sparky needs to change it around in the second half - you can't trust another 45 minutes to luck. We need to give Hamburg something to think about. Go 4-4-2 - leave Craig Bellamy and Danny Sturridge up front but bring on Martin Petrov for Robinho" Join the debate on 606
2043: The players are back outHSH Nordbank Arena - will the second half be as entertaining as the first?
2040: From J3ffchenko on 606: "I'm quite happy with how things have gone so far, although we have been a bit fortunate. It's a cracking match to watch if not just for the battle between Shay Given and Ivica Olic! I think a draw or even another away goal should (hopefully) see City through! Although being City, anything can happen!" Join the debate on 606
2037: Just in case you haven't already heard, QPR have sacked their manager Paulo Sousa. Gareth Ainsworth is now in temporary charge at Loftus Road. Sousa only took charge of Rangers in November.
2035: From Kieran, Harrogate, via text on 81111: "Unbelievable, I had a dream last night that Stephen Ireland would score after 10 seconds, 35 is close enough! City won the 'dream' game 2-1 with Shaun Wright-Phillips scoring the winner! Place your bets?"
2033: Stephen Ireland started and finished the move that put Manchester City ahead and his reward is to lead the way at half-time on Player Rater with a score of 8.33. No surprise that Shay Given is not far behind, however, and I'm guessing that his marks will improve if the second half is anything like the first. Hamburg v Man City Player Rater
2030: A chance for me to catch my breath. What a half that was, and I am still not sure how the score is still 1-1. Hamburg, since going behind, have been sensational. City, apart from Shay Given, have struggled.
2029: HALF-TIME Hamburg 1-1 Man City
2028: Yet another chance for Hamburg and Ivica Olic comes extremely close to scoring with a spectacular overhead kick. To City's relief it flies over.
2026: That man Shay Given rescues Manchester City again. Ivica Olic does brilliantly to get past Micah Richards on the left and the ball comes to Piotr Trochowski who fires in a shot that bounces wide off the goalkeeper's legs.
2024: One sign of a good game is you don't notice the referee. The man in the middle here, Olegario Benquerenca, finally gets involved after 40 minutes when he books Piotr Trochowski for an aggressive aerial challenge on Richard Dunne.
2022: Another good move by Hamburg but when Ivica Olic pulls the ball back across goal none of his team-mates are anywhere near it, or even inside the penalty area. Olic's expression says it all - he is not a happy chap.
2020: GOAL Werder Bremen 1-0 Udinese (Ribas Diego 34)
2018: City may be coming back into this game but Hamburg are still on top and are probably most threatening when they attack on the break. Mark Hughes looks on from the touchline, trying to appear calm.
2015: From nowthennathan on 606: "Poor old Shay Given. Whether its Newcastle or Man City he's still keeping his side in it. At least he gets paid more now. Quality keeper." Join the debate on 606
2013: Another Danny Sturridge effort spins off a Hamburg defender to earn City a corner. The visitors are coming back into this one slightly. The corner comes to nothing, however.
2010: Hamburg's turn to forget how to defend, I think. Danny Sturridge is well-placed and unmarked in the area but he cannot keep his header down. Chance gone.
2009: It has been a long, long time since City last threatened but they are almost back in front. Danny Sturridge finds Craig Bellamy inside the area but his snap-shot is saved by Frank Rost.
2008: Just to recap, City scored after 35 seconds but Hamburg have dominated ever since, quickly equalised, and could have had five goals, let alone one. Shay Given is the only reason the score is still 1-1.
2006: I hope Shay Given is getting a bonus for every save he makes tonight. This time he has to push away Marcell Jansen's rasping shot from the left. More storming stuff from the German side but where is the City defence?
2005: Blimey. City are certainly under the cosh right now. This time the woodwork comes to their rescue when Jonathan Pitroipa's far-post header loops over the stranded Shay Given but bounces back off the bar. Hamburg are looking very, very dangerous.
2003: Another corner for Hamburg, another save from Shay Given. This time Piotr Trochowski, who made their equaliser, lets fly with a bouncing shot that the keeper does well to hold on to.
2001: Kevin Gallacher on BBC 5 Live: "The game is levelling out now after a frantic first 15 minutes. City are just stabilising themselves and have settled into this match more now."
1959: Hamburg have played some pretty passing football in the early stages but they are not afraid to lump it, when needed, too. Shay Given has to deal with one long ball and Richard Dunne does well to cut out another.
1957: Kevin Gallacher on BBC 5 Live: "Hamburg are showing what a good side they are. City have got a lot of attack-minded players but they have to be more aware defensively too."
1955: Craig Bellamy has switched flanks with Robinho and is now on the left flank for City. The game has settled down a tad - but Hamburg are still enjoying most of the possession and are doing most of the attacking too.
1954: From Pepe Consoli loves The Benitez Rant on 606: "Oh dear, despite the heroics from Shay Given there's no way he would have kept that out. Magnificent save from him just before that though." Join the debate on 606
1953: GOAL Hamburg 1-1 Manchester City Hamburg's pressure pays off and they are level. Piotr Trochowski's corner is headed home by Joris Mathisen at the near post. Neither team seems to be able to defend right now.
1952: That is Shay Given's third brilliant save of the night, diving to keep out Michael Gravgaard's close-range shot. Frantic stuff.
1949: A few of you have pointed out that it was Stephen Ireland who played Robinho in before meeting the return pass to put City ahead. Even more impressive, that.
1948: Phew. Another chance for Hamburg and Mladen Petric should really have levelled. He is unmarked in the area to meet a cross from the right but heads straight at Shay Given.
1946: I'm still getting my breath back and I suspect most of the crowd at the HSH Nordbank Arena are doing the same. David Jarolim fires in a shot from a Hamburg corner and Shay Given saves, just.
1945: GOAL Hamburg 0-1 Manchester City Amazing start for City, who win possession almost immediately. Stephen Ireland feeds Robinho with a long ball and the Brazilian does brilliantly to return the ball to Ireland to slot the visitors in front after 35 seconds.
1945: Hamburg get this Uefa Cup quarter-final first leg under way.
1942: Kevin Gallacher on BBC 5 Live: "Manchester City have already passed their own expectations to get this far in this competition - if they can win it and get back into the Uefa Cup next season they will find it a lot easier to attract players to the club in the summer."
1940: From TopClassCitizen on 606: "Please let us score an away goal! A 2-1 or 3-2 defeat wouldn't be terrible as I can see City winning at home. Although, I keep thinking back to Schalke where we were excellent earlier this season..." Join the debate on 606
1938: There are almost 58,000 fans packed in to the HSH Nordbank Arena, which is close to capacity. They have less than 10 minutes to wait until kick-off.
1936: "It's been too long". So said Manchester City boss Mark Hughes this week when reminded that the club has not won anything of note since 1976. City have not even reached a semi-final since 1981. Time to put that right? A good result tonight would certainly help.
1932: From Miamiblue on 606: "Very attacking line up from Sparky! Like the look of it. Come on City!" Join the debate on 606
Got to agree - it is an adventurous approach by Hughes. It is always worth watching Danny Sturridge, and the fitness of Stephen Ireland and Wayne Bridge is a huge boost for City.
1930: City's away form in the Premier League is not bad - it's terrible. But in Europe, it has (mostly) been a different story. OK, drawing three Danish teams along the way has helped but City's form in the group stages was pretty impressive. They have already won in Germany this season too, beating Schalke back in November.
1928: Hamburg are likely to represent City's biggest test yet in the Uefa Cup this season. You probably already know that ex-Tottenham boss Martin Jol is their manager but you might not be aware that 'HSV' are currently joint top of the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and have won 10 out of 14 games since the German winter break. So it's safe to say that Hamburg fans will approach this game with relish...
1925: TEAM NEWS Hamburg v Man City Manchester City are without key midfielders Vincent Kompany (hamstring) and Nigel de Jong (ineligible) and boss Mark Hughes opts for a 4-3-3 formation with a midfield trio of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Pablo Zabaleta and a fit-again Stephen Ireland. Richard Dunne and Nedum Onuoha are at centre-back and Danny Sturridge does indeed start up front.
1923: FULL-TIME Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 Marseille
1922: TEAMS Hamburg v Man City Hamburg: Rost, Benjamin, Gravgaard, Mathijsen, Jansen, Pitroipa, Jarolim, Aogo, Trochowski, Petric, Olic. Subs: Hesl, Guerrero, Ndjeng, Rincon, Schmidt, Torun. Man City: Given, Richards, Dunne, Onuoha, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Zabaleta, Ireland, Sturridge, Bellamy, Robinho. Subs: Hart, Elano, Garrido, Petrov, Fernandes, Mwaruwari, Berti.
1921: From TrashcanSinartra on 606: "Mark Hughes has a real chance to make himself a hero today....." Join the debate on 606
1919: Manchester City boss Mark Hughes: "We won't be able to win the tie here but it is possible we could lose it - that's the key. We don't want to be in a position in which the second leg is beyond us. We want to make sure we are in a decent position when we go back to Eastlands and hopefully have a great European night because there have not been that many over the years."
We are in the closing minutes of Shakhtar Donetsk's tie with Marseille, which kicked off earlier. The Ukrainian side are leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Tomas Hubschman and Rodrigues Jadson.
1917: No me neither. So what's happening tonight? Well, we are down to the last eight of Europe's second-best club competition and Manchester's second-most successful club, Manchester City, are Britain's sole representatives left in the competition. The first leg of their quarter-final against Hamburg is coming up in, oooh, minutes.
Some early team news - Danny Sturridge is up front for Mark Hughes's side, with Robinho and Craig Bellamy either side of him.
1915: I can't help but feel a bit sorry for the Uefa Cup. It's got a fantastic history but has been a bit of a laughing stock for years and spends most of its time in the shadows of its more glamorous and over-hyped rival. Now, does that remind you of any particular club...?
